December 10, 2019

On the heels of its Premier League streaming success, Amazon has acquired the rights to show selected matches from the Champions League to its subscribers in Germany, as the online giant continues to make strides into sports broadcasting in Europe.

Amazon Prime Video will show ‘first-pick’ matches on Tuesday evenings of each game-week from the 2021-2022 season. The deal will cover a total of 16 games.

“We’re excited to bring UEFA Champions League football to our customers in Germany,” said Alex Green, MD, Prime Video Sport Europe. “The UEFA Champions League is one of the most prestigious club competitions in the world. We’re delighted to bring the top-pick Tuesday matches to our customers from 2021.”

The Champions League rights are currently held by Sky Deutschland in Germany, which sub-licenses a package to sports streaming platform DAZN.
