More than 30 per cent of French homes own a 4K TV screen and this figure is set to increase to 60 per cent in 2021, according to UHD Partners France.

Holding its annual conference in Paris, UHD Partners France said that among the key reasons for 4K uptake are the growing volume of 4K sports broadcasts, the demand for 4K TV series, the arrival of 4K set-top-boxes, and “Canal+ Group involvement”.

According to SES, which is carrying 20 commercial UHD channels across Europe, Canal+’s 4K DTH provides “the technical solution for live 4K in France, owing to its image and service quality compared to fibre, IPTV and DTT.”

There are also around 450 4K Blu-ray titles available in France.
