Technicolor Ruby STB integrates Google Services, Netflix

January 10, 2020

Ruby, the new Technicolor Connected Home STB powered by Android TV, has integrated Google services and Netflix for network service providers (NSPs) operating in emerging economies.

This creates new opportunities for NSPs to bring Google services like the Google Assistant, YouTube, Google Play Music, Google Play Movies and the Google Play Store as well as Netflix to consumers within the HDMI1 environment in a cost-effective manner. Technicolor says this offering is of importance to NSPs expanding their presence – and range of services – in Latin America, Southeast Asia, and Eastern Europe. Technicolor is already working with a number of NSPs to bring this product to market in early 2020.

Brian Jentz, Sr. Director Video Product Unit, Technicolor Connected Home, commented: “Making Google services and Netflix available on the Ruby STB provides many benefits to both NSP and the content providers. For the NSP community, the integration accelerates the time to market and reduces the risk and cost of making Google services and Netflix content available to consumers within an environment that they manage. Google services benefit by providing more consumers around the world with a new, convenient and high-quality way to access their content.”

“This is the latest demonstration of Technicolor Connected Home’s commitment to bringing to market open platform technologies that elevate NSP access to innovation while ensuring that consumers receive the highest quality experience. With Ruby, NSPs receive the benefit of working with the most experienced team in the industry. Technicolor is the number one Android TV STB provider and has implemented Netflix certifications on over 25 NSP devices,” concluded Jentz.
