The country of Monaco, famous for its Grand Prix, wants another satellite.
Monaco’s population of some 39,000 is, like any other small country, entitled to exploit is orbital ITU permissions. It already has one craft, a joint-venture that was launched in 2015 (called TurkmenAlem-52E/MonacoSat) and serving Europe, MENA and Central Asia in Ku-band. The government of Turkmenistan helped raise the cash.
Ilhami Aygün, CEO of MonacoSat, speaking during a recent webinar, said that towards the end of this year it hoped to finalise the project and select a manufacturer.
He added that some two-thirds of the first satellite’s capacity was being used.
