Intrepid Travel partners with WaterBear Network

November 2, 2020

WaterBear Network, the interactive streaming platform dedicated to the future of our planet, has announced a partnership with leading responsible travel company Intrepid Travel. The first of WaterBear’s travel partnerships, Intrepid will form part of WaterBear’s ‘Take Action’ element – enabling its members to book travel directly through the platform and give back to both the communities they visit, and the planet.

Launching next month, WaterBear Network is an innovative digital platform and mobile app, which empowers its audience to turn intention into action. With original content and curated documentaries inspired by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, WaterBear aims to engage millions in the creation of a new, sustainable and just future for everyone.

Intrepid Travel was founded 30 years ago by two friends in Melbourne, Australia who believed travel could benefit both travellers and the communities they visit. It has since grown into the world’s largest adventure travel company with a not for profit Foundation that has raised more than AUD $10 million for over 130 community organisations in destinations they visit. Intrepid is the first travel company partnership for WaterBear, which is reinventing the meaning of ‘user engagement’ in the realm of streaming and entertainment.

Uniquely, WaterBear’s interactive technology enables viewers to take immediate action to support life on Earth by engaging with and supporting causes close to their heart. By donating to one of WaterBear’s 70 NGO partners, signing a petition, or booking sustainable travel.

WaterBear will be a powerful showcase for the world’s best short- and long-form impact entertainment. From stunning film shorts and award-winning wildlife documentary series to premieres of new content from world-leading directors, its goal will be to facilitate awareness, education and action.

Victor Eckard, Managing Director, WaterBear Network said: “WaterBear is dedicated to bringing together a global community that is passionate about protecting the planet, and empowering them to take action in both the digital and virtual worlds.  We are so excited to welcome Intrepid on board as our first travel partner, who will work with us to make interacting with our natural world more accessible to everyone. Granting our members the opportunity to engage with the issues they care about beyond our platform.”

Zina Bencheikh, Intrepid’s managing director EMEA,  said: “We are thrilled to be joining WaterBear Network as their first travel partner. As travel’s largest B Corp, we’re passionate about giving travellers the opportunity to connect with local people and make a positive impact.  We’re looking forward to inspiring Waterbear’s members to travel to the places and communities that need their support.”
