BT Sport to broadcast live finale of Vendée Globe

January 27, 2021

BT Sport will broadcast tonight’s finale of the 2020–2021 Vendée Globe, live on BT Sport Extra 4 from 18:00, as the stage is set for one of the tightest finishes in the race’s history.

As of 3pm this afternoon, Charlie Dalin holds a narrow lead over his compatriot Louis Burton with just over 60 nautical miles separating the pair while, 50nm further back, Boris Herrmann trails the French duo in third. The first one to reach the finish line, however, may not be the winner of the race: Hermann will receive a time compensation of 6 hours and 15 minutes for assisting in the rescue of Kevin Escoffier, after his boat broke up in late November. A compensation of 11 hours will also be awarded to Yannick Bestaven, who currently occupies fifth place in a race that, at this stage, remains too close to call.

BT Sport will bring fans exclusively live coverage of the exciting climax across three separate broadcasts this evening, starting at 18:30 until 19:50 on BT Sport Extra 4, during which time the first vessel is expected to reach the finish line at Les Sables-d’Olonne. The broadcast will resume at 22:15 until 23:50 and then again at 02:30 until 05:00 on BT Sport Extra 4 as more boats complete the gruelling race, together with coverage of the pontoon ceremony and interviews with various skippers.
