OneWeb, the global communications network powered from space, will release its first Gen2 RFI and host an Industry Day in association with the European Space Agency on 23-24 September at the European Centre for Space Applications and Telecommunications (ECSAT).
OneWeb is actively seeking mission partners with which to verify the definition, requirements and strategy for its next generation satellite constellation, known as Gen2, which will go into development in 2022. The RFI and industry day will enable early industry involvement and ensure that Gen2 is built for future customer-first satellite connectivity requirements.
Invitations to the Industry Day are open to companies of every size across the satellite industry, telco, ESA partners and agencies as well as research organisations and academia. The industry day will include workshops, Q&A on the RFI and process of involvement, and a restricted number of one-on-one meetings.
“We continue to co-create our Innovation Programme which features a technology roadmap to support new ideas, opportunities and exciting partnerships to join the Gen2 programme. The RFI and Industry Day, in association with ESA, will enable organisations to play an active part in the definition and execution of OneWeb’s next generation of satellites.” said OneWeb CTO Massimiliano Ladovaz.
Elodie Viau, Director of Telecommunications and Integrated Applications at the European Space Agency, said: “We are delighted to host this event at the European Centre for Space Applications and Telecommunications (ECSAT), which is ESA’s UK base, to boost European space innovation. Through its programme of Advanced Research in Telecommunication Systems (ARTES), ESA is always on the frontline to foster European space industry competitiveness.”
Space is a global, shared resource and the RFI and Industry Day is part of OneWeb’s Innovation Programme to foster smart new innovations in space communications for the benefit of everyone on Earth – responsibly, sustainably, and together. OneWeb also recently announced the winners of its first Innovation Challenge. The winners will be invited to attend the Industry Day event.
