In-Car cloud gaming hits the fast lane with ACCESS and Ludium Lab
December 16, 2021
ACCESS Europe has partnered with Ludium Lab to bring its cloud-based gaming subscription platform, SoraStream, to the car. Through this partnership, ACCESS Europe will make Ludium Lab’s SoraStream cloud-gaming platform and its extensive library of 300 games available to automotive brands through its In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) platform, ACCESS Twine for Car 3.0 (Twine4Car), and its car-centric App Store.
“The global automotive infotainment market is projected to grow from $7.03 billion in 2021 to $12.57 billion by 2028. One of the factors fuelling part of this growth will be cloud gaming, a market that is projected to increase by over 300% in the next three years,” said Robert Guest, VP Product Management at ACCESS Europe. “Our partnership with Ludium is great news for OEMs as in-car entertainment is increasingly becoming the decider in the vehicle purchasing decision-making process.”
Accessible from a mobile phone, tablet, or computer, SoraStream, the cloud gaming platform by Ludium lab, requires no investment in hardware and is easy to play with any gamepad or even with a mobile phone as a controller. It provides a perfectly branded, value-added app that OEMs can provide via the car head-unit (HU) and rear-seat entertainment (RSE) displays to enable car users the ability to play anywhere and on any device. Ludium’s technology allows the streaming of any interactive software with high-performance results (60FPS, FHD).
An offshoot of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, Barcelona based Ludium Lab has supported the gaming market since 2012, helping to facilitate its shift from a physical to digital and cloud-first culture. Following the release of its cloud-gaming platform SoraStream in 2018, the service has quickly grown to boast an impressive catalogue of more than 150 PC, 100 retro and classics, and free-to-play games from leading publishers, including THQ, Milestone, Outright Games, Plug In Digital and Bigben Interactive. Ludium Lab plans to release much more games from some of the world’s top publishers in the near future, including the possibility to bring your own licences to the service.
David Pavón, Global Commercial Director at Ludium Lab, said: “Cloud-gaming is the perfect use case for automotive brands looking to differentiate themselves and create new types of engagements and revenue streams. That’s why we’re delighted to integrate our complete and unique cloud gaming suite, SoraStream, with ACCESS Europe’s Twine4Car In-Vehicle Infotainment system. Car users can now enjoy widespread access to great games with local multiplayer options, with the ability to play alone or with friends, regardless of where they are in the world.”
Twine4Car bridges the gap between the media and automotive industries and enables car manufacturers to provide branded entertainment services on the car HU and RSE units from multiple sources and content partners. The result is an embedded content service through one aggregation source controlled and managed by OEMs – enabling them to provide the entertainment services their customers are asking for and maintain brand engagement through a truly multi-device experience.
