Televes extends its EICS certification

January 20, 2022

Televes has extended its European IRS Certification Scheme (EICS) certification, adding its new range of optical products as well as its wideband LNB.

A suppliers of broadcast reception equipment, Televes, certified its range of dCSS Nevo multiswitch products in 2021. The latest products to be added are its Overlight range of optical transmitters and receivers (both Quattro and dCSS) as well as its wideband LNB, demonstrating the high quality and end-to-end capability of Televes IRS solutions, as well as their compatibility with all major satellite and TV platforms. This means the scheme now covers a full range of products from antenna through to reception.

The DTG Testing and CAI’s EICS scheme is a Europe-wide assurance scheme for TV and Satellite distribution equipment. The scheme provides ‘reassurance of end-to-end device compatibility, interoperability and robust RF performance within satellite and DTT distribution systems.’

The scheme has been developed through an industry collaboration of satellite and DTT platforms, major equipment manufacturers, and led by industry associations DTG and CAI. It consists of a test specification underpinned by international standards and a consumer-facing logo. Manufacturers of equipment such as receivers, dSCRs, multi-switches, fibre gateways, launch amplifiers and LNBs can display the logo on their products after successfully passing the required tests.

Supported by retailers, the logo will ensure a high quality of experience for the end customer. End-users, such as installers, specifiers, housing associations and platform operators can use the logo to recognise equipment that is compatible with all major satellite and TV services; and therefore, interoperable with other EICS equipment.

DTG Testing provide testing against the EICS specification at their UKAS-accredited laboratory based in London. CAI operates the scheme which includes a market surveillance programme to maintain a high standard of EICS-marked equipment.

Alex Buchan, Strategic Technologist at the DTG, said “DTG Testing is delighted that a major manufacturer such as Televes has expanded its range of products which are part of the EICS scheme. The continued uptake of the scheme is great news for TV platforms, manufacturers of satellite and TV distribution equipment, and installers who can select products with confidence when they see the EICS mark.”

Peter Sealey, Chairman of CAI, said “CAI is pleased to have worked with DTG Testing to develop this new Product Certification Scheme, which follows on from the success of CAI’s existing Cable and Aerial Certification Schemes, and delighted that Televes have shown its continued support with its latest products. This scheme will enable our members, as well as other parts of the industry, to select the best products for their installations. The EICS mark will also enable developers, landlords and the specifiers working for them, to help ensure they get systems that work as intended, when combined with CAI Codes of Practice and installation by our members.”

Televes said: “Televes is delighted to have worked with CAI and the DTG to be the first to achieve EICS certification for its brand new Overlight MDU FIRS transmitters, Fibre gateways and LNB, demonstrating our R&D capabilities and commitment to quality, further expanding our fibre offering making it one of the most comprehensive on the market today. We believe that EICS certification further enhances customer confidence in products endorsed by the scheme.”
