CAF selects Globecast

February 2, 2022

Globecast, the global solutions provider for media, has announced that it has been selected by CAF (The Confederation of African Football) for two seasons of satellite distribution for their main competitions. This includes the rescheduled TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations 2021 men’s football championship, being held in Cameroon, which kicked off last month.

Pierre Ramon, Project Engineer at Globecast, said: “We have a long-established relationship with supplying services for the Africa Cup of Nations, including the highly successful 2019 event. The TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations 2021 is one of the world’s great sporting occasions and we are delighted to have been selected by CAF to provide a range of services not only for this event, but also the Champions League of CAF TotalEnergies, the Confederation Cup of CAF TotalEnergies and the African Cup of Nations TotalEnergies, Côte d’Ivoire 2023.”

Globecast is providing main and back up satellite distribution mainly in Europe and Africa but also occasionally to other territories. For the current Africa Cup of Nations, Globecast is working closely with the CRTV, the host Cameroon broadcaster. Alongside premium quality satellite feeds, Globecast is supplying a dedicated technical team for control and monitoring in its MCR in Paris with the redundant feed taking a different route. It is also providing a commentary booth and is providing fibre links to CAF’s graphics partner when required. Globecast also creates streams for CAF’s statistics partner and also for CAF to ensure correct sponsor content insertion.

In a statement CAF Secretary General, Veron Mosengo-Omba, said: “For CAF to reach the next level, it is important to ensure that we have world-class skills and quality television production is one of the key elements in organising world-class events.”

Ramon added: “We’re proud to once again be involved with African football. As Veron Mosengo-Omba says, quality TV coverage is essential to reach as wider audience as possible to optimise monetisation opportunities. We have years of expertise in this field, including the complex logistics involved with a tournament of this scale.”
