4.6m watch Wales beat Ukraine on ITV

ITV’s coverage of the World Cup play-off between Wales and Ukraine on June 5th peaked with 4.6 million viewers. An average of 2.3 million viewers and 17 per cent audience share watched as a deflected Gareth Bale free kick won the game 1-0 for Wales, who now claim a place in the World Cup Finals for the first time since 1958.

The match peaked with just under half a million viewers in Wales which is one of the highest peak audiences in Wales this year, after Rugby (Six Nations) matches and Jubilee coverage over the extended Bank Holiday weekend.

ITV announced its agreement with rights holders Sky to show coverage of the match in May.

Wales now join England, Iran and USA in Group B at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which commences on November 21st.
