DAZN to buy Eleven Sports?
July 13, 2022
Sport streaming service DAZN is in talks to acquire online rival Eleven Sports. Discussions are at an advanced stage according to the FT, but there is no guarantee of a deal being agreed.
DAZN, owned by billionaire Len Blavatnik, is working aggressively to acquire more content rights and move into new markets at a time of increased competition for live sports that both attract and retain subscribers. DAZN holds the rights to UEFA Champions League, Formula E, INDYCAR, World Endurance Championship, World Rally Championship, SpeedSeries, Professional Fighters League and more in various territories, and recently signed a deal with boxer Anthony Joshua.
Eleven Sports was founded by Italian entrepreneur Andrea Radrizzani in 2015 and has accumulated a mix of sports rights across Europe including rights to F1 in Poland, and the UEFA Champions League and Premier League in Portugal. It also owns its own streaming technology following the acquisition of MyCujoo in 2020.
Last year, DAZN failed in it attempt to land BT Sport.
