BT Sport unveils new series of podcasts

BT Sport is launching a new line-up of podcasts available for free available across popular podcast platforms.

BT Sport Pods, which joins BT Sport’s line-up of non-live programming including BT Sport Films and No Filter, will initially comprise six new series – The Premier League Storybook with Jake Humphrey, The Joe Cole Cast, James Richardson’s Kings of Europe, Michael Calvin’s Football People, Currie Club: The Scottish Football Sessions, and Rugby Stories.

Jamie Hindhaugh, head of BT Sport, said: “We are continually looking to connect fans to the sports they love in new ways. BT Sport Pods will provide fans with fascinating insight into many of the personalities, moments, clubs and backstories of the sporting world. BT Sport Pods will continue to grow as we launch additional series in the future covering more subjects.”

The podcasts, with new episodes available every week, include:

Michael Calvin’s Football People (new episodes every Thursday from August 4th)

The first of the new BT Sport Pods is Michael Calvin’s Football People, out today. Emma Hayes, Chelsea FC Women’s manager, kicks off the first podcast with award-winning journalist, broadcaster and author Michael Calvin. In each episode, Calvin and the UK’s leading sports reporters discuss the biggest issues in the game and explore the game’s leading personalities. Each episode will also feature an interview with a range of special guests from a variety of backgrounds including players, managers, club owners, referees and sports psychologists.

The Joe Cole Cast (new episodes every Saturday from August 27th)

BT Sport analyst, the former England and Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole, sits down with former team-mates and leading lights of the game in a 12-part series reflecting on the moments and personalities that have featured during Joe’s time in football. Upcoming guests include Frank Lampard, Jordan Henderson, Declan Rice, Harry Redknapp, Mark Noble, Paul Scholes and Peter Crouch.

The Premier League Storybook with Jake Humphrey (new episodes every Saturday from September 3rd)

A 15-part documentary series looking back over 30 years of Premier League football history – charting the drama, rivalries, skill, players and changes both in the game and wider society that have accompanied the growth of the world’s most successful domestic football league. Hosted by Jake Humphrey, episodes include ‘King Eric’, a celebration of Eric Cantona’s dominance of the Premier League’s early years, and, ‘Spice Boys’, a look back at Liverpool in the 1990s as they and other sides int the Premier League became tabloid stars.

Currie Club: The Scottish Football Sessions (new episodes every Friday from September 2nd)

BT Sport’s Scottish football expert Darrell Currie hosts special guests to discuss some of the greatest stories in the history of Scottish football in a twelve-episode series. The show will also be available on BT Sport television channels. Episodes will include a look at Glasgow Rangers famed treble-winning season in 1992/93 with guests including Archie Knox, Stuart McCall and Mark Hateley, a look under the skin of Celtic with manager Angelos Postecoglou and Chris Sutton, and, a special on the rise of Andy Robertson to become one of the world’s best left-backs.

Rugby Stories (episodes every Monday from November 14th)

Craig Doyle presents a thirteen-part series with each episode focusing on a different Gallagher Premiership Rugby club. Rugby Stories will highlight and bring to life a story from every club in the Gallagher Premiership, such as how clubs including Saracens and Leicester won a famous domestic or European title. The series will feature contributions from the likes of Lawrence Dallaglio, Ugo Monye and Owen Farrell.

James Richardson’s Kings of Europe (debuting in February 2023)

James Richardson celebrates 30 years of the UEFA Champions League as he speaks to players from UEFA Champions League winning teams since the tournament’s inception in 1993. The 15-episode series will include a look at the 1995 winners Ajax with Patrick Kluivert, 2006 champions Barcelona with Henrik Larsson, and, 2012 winners Chelsea with Roberto Di Matteo.

The Joe Cole Cast, The Premier League Storybook, Currie Club, Rugby Stories and James Richardson’s Kings of Europewill be produced by Buzz 16.  Buzz 16 is an award winning production company who have recently produced Playing with Pride for BT Sport, as well as producing the channels Premier 15’s Rugby coverage.
