Rosaline, a fresh and comedic twist on Shakespeare’s classic love story Romeo & Juliet, lands on Disney+ on October 14th. The movie is told from the perspective of Juliet’s cousin Rosaline (Kaitlyn Dever), who also happens to be Romeo’s recent love interest. Heartbroken when Romeo (Kyle Allen) meets Juliet (Isabela Merced) and begins to pursue her, Rosaline schemes to foil the famous romance and win back her guy.

To celebrate the launch of this fresh take on a Shakespearean classic, Disney+ is launching a new ‘Inspired by Shakespeare’ collection on the platform, where subscribers can find other films inspired by the Bard.

These include:

  • The Lion King (1994) – inspired by Hamlet

  • 10 Things I Hate About You (1999) – inspired by The Taming of the Shrew

  • West Side Story (2021) – inspired by Romeo and Juliet

  • Motocrossed (2001) – inspired by Twelfth Night

Disney+ is also home to some iconic film adaptations of Shakespeare plays, including Baz Luhrumann’s Romeo and Juliet (1996) starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes, and Michael Hoffman’s Midsummer Night’s Dream (1999) starring Michelle Pfeiffer, Christian Bale, Kevin Kline, Stanley Tucci and Calista Flockhart.
