Beyond Rights extends partnership with Crackit

October 14, 2022

Beyond Rights has extended its partnership with unscripted indie Crackit Productions, resulting in the acquisition of five new titles just in time MIPCOM.

Key to a Fortune (6 x 60), produced for Channel 4, is a unique new wish fulfilment show, hosted by Jean Johansson, that surprises unsuspecting members of the public with huge, life changing windfalls. It’s the series that unites families with jaw dropping properties they didn’t know they had and reunites long lost families who all stand to benefit from an unexpected inheritance. In addition to launching the completed series at MIPCOM, Beyond Rights will also be promoting the format rights for this fresh new programme.

The other new acquisitions are all travel-themed and sit within Crackit’s long-standing “Go Horribly Wrong” franchise. Comprising five new hours produced for Channel 5, When Luxury Holidays Go Horribly Wrong (2 x 60), When Luxury Cruises Go Horribly Wrong (1 x 60), When Day Trips Go Horribly Wrong (1 x 60) and When Hotel Holidays Go Horribly Wrong (1 x 60) can be packaged together as a series or sold as four standalone titles. Each title is narrated by actor Glynis Barber and features first-hand interviews and user-generated content from people whose holidays or day trips ended in disaster, with expert commentary from travel presenters and respected travel journalist and broadcaster Simon Calder.

Nicola Davey, Beyond Rights’ SVP acquisitions, negotiated the deal for the Crackit titles. She says: “Crackit is one of the most dynamic indies producing in the UK today, so we are delighted that Elaine and the team have chosen us to represent their new. Key to a Fortune is an exciting new series, hitting a double sweet spot by combining property with family reunions, so we have high hopes when we take both the series and format to MIPCOM. Meanwhile, with international travel almost back to normal following the pandemic, there is an increase in demand for all types of travel shows. These five Go Horribly Wrong travel hours provide an entertaining and sometimes eye-popping counterpoint to the wealth of glossy destination-led shows in the market and as such, should be much in demand.”

Elaine Hackett, CEO of Crackit Productions adds: “Key to a Fortune will draw viewers in with its mix of life-changing events, from unexpected windfalls and emotional journeys, as families get to hear about inheriting hundreds of thousands of pounds and meet relatives that they never knew they had. I’m sure it will prove to be a huge hit at MIPCOM, along with our five immensely entertaining Horribly Wrong travel episodes.”
