Freedom Scripted to adapt memoir by Lucy Holden

October 31, 2022

Glasgow-based production company Freedom Scripted has acquired the rights to Lucid, the memoir by author and award-winning journalist, Lucy Holden. Freedom Scripted are making the book into a TV series, with Holden herself attached to adapt.

Based on her critically acclaimed memoir published in hardback earlier this year, the series follows young, ambitious journalist Lucy over a decade, where living conditions are unstable, and love is swipeable. Life in the fast lane eventually veers into darkness, before the pandemic forces Lucy to a standstill, where she must face her own buried trauma.

Holdens mémoire is the story of a generation exploring the constant battle between freedom and fear that defines coming of age from the 2010s and beyond. The series will portray Holdens comical and unflinchingly honest account of her own experiences.

Development Executive at Freedom Scripted, Nancy Napper Canter, commented: We are so pleased to be working with Lucy on adapting her brilliantly funny, perceptive and at times gut-wrenching memoir. Lucys no-holds-barred account of millennial life is second to none, and we cannot wait to bring her story to life on screen. Its set to be essential watching for anyone whos ever come of age, fallen in love, or lived in a nudist camp in Amsterdam.”

Holden added: Im so proud that Freedom has acquired the rights to Lucid, the memoir of my wild twenties. The number of readers who continue to write-in thanking me for laying bare my experiences suggests I have struck a nerve and that this is a story ripe for screen adaptation. Having already started working on it with the brilliant minds at Freedom, I know the series is going to be quite the ride
