VeEX launches NoApp leveraging QR code tech

VeEX, a global provider of test and measurement solutions for next-generation networks, has introduced NoApp, a unique, patent pending QR code test result transfer feature for its handheld range of fibre optics, Ethernet, and CaTV test solutions. This feature will soon be available across most VeEX field test platforms.
Service providers are under intense pressure to install FTTx, DOCSIS and 5G networks as fast as possible; this invariably impacts their ability to collect and submit valuable field test records of work performed and completed. Additionally, low cost field testers have basic data entry facilities only, and lack the modern interfaces needed to transfer, share or upload test data.
Quick Response (QR) codes are revolutionizing how test results are presented and transferred; using a smartphone or any mobile device equipped with a camera and QR code reader, the field technician simply scans the QR code displayed on the VeEX tester’s screen after the measurement is performed and saved.
VeEX’s NoApp cloud service processes the QR code information, providing instant access to all measurement parameters on the mobile device. Technicians can augment reports by entering additional job attributes, comments, pictures, and even tag results with GPS coordinates obtained from the mobile device. Test records can be sent via text or emailed to a supervisor for review – they can also be uploaded and archived in VeEX’s VeSion R-Server workflow and asset management system, using the phone’s internet connection or Wi-Fi.
“QR codes coupled with VeEX’s NoApp web-hosted service, provides free, fast and reliable access to valuable test data without having to rely on a wired or wireless connection with the tester,” said Monica Hua, Product Manager of VeEX’s PON product portfolio. “This is not only a huge time-saver, but it eliminates technicians having to perform constant app updates for everchanging iOS and Android operating systems.”
Test results are an integral part of the service activation phase, and play a vital role in the maintenance, troubleshooting and future planning of the network.
- Service Activation: Test results acquired at time of installation or service activation provide a “birth certificate” of the new subscriber service. This information is submitted by installers/contractors as “proof of conformance” and for receiving payment.
- Network Maintenance: Test records are an important reference for ongoing maintenance activities, especially when troubleshooting degraded or faulty network connections.
- Future Planning: Operators need to document and understand the performance limits of their networks before offering new high-speed services or network upgrades.
