Intelsat selects Babeleye’s Metadata for Africa

May 15, 2023

Babeleye, the specialists in TV & entertainment metadata for video platforms, has announced that satellie operato Intelsat is using Babeleye’s rich metadata to power VideoNow in Africa.

VideoNow by Intelsat, in conjunction with EasyBroadcast, is a service for viewers looking for free-to-air (FTA) content on DTH platforms. Through VideoNow, viewers are able to find and discover new content specific to their interests though an easy-to-navigate interface, highlighting available channels as well as their programming lineup. The service has been previously launched in America on Intelsat’s Galaxy 19, and now has been extended to Sub-Saharan Africa via Intelsat 20: a multicultural and ethnic-content neighbourhood.

One of the main challenges Babeleye overcame, thanks to its active presence in Africa, was to bring the many stakeholders and broadcasters from the vast continent to adhere to a unified process and an efficient workflow for raw information aggregation.

“As we are committed to the African market, we are very excited that Intelsat is using Babeleye to fully manage the metadata lifecycle on its VideoNow app and website”, said Lasse Schmidt, Sales Director at Babeleye. “In a market with such peculiarities, creating and uniforming the metadata is key to a successful user experience.”
