Prime Video sees record audiences for non-English Originals

June 20, 2023

Prime Video has achieved record-breaking international success for two of its recent international Original title launches, with feature films My Fault (Culpa Mía, Spain) and Medellin (Medellín, France) becoming the biggest travelling non-English language local Original titles in the streaming platform’s history.

The movies, which launched in the last two weeks in 240 countries and territories around the world simultaneously – have set a new bar for Prime Video streams of non-English language content, on the heels of the global success of Prime Video’s Argentinian original movie Argentina 1985, which earlier this year was an Academy Award Best International Film Nominee and Golden Globe Award Best International Film Winner.

Following its worldwide release on June 8th, Spanish local Original My Fault has become the biggest travelling non-English language movie launch in Prime Video history. The film, based on Mercedes Ron’s best-selling Culpables book trilogy, was the number one movie worldwide on Prime Video during its opening weekend, and since launch has ranked in the top 10 most watched titles in over 190 countries, including US, UK, Australia, India, Argentina, and France. Medellin, which follows a young YouTuber fascinated by Pablo Escobar, launched on June 2nd and is the second biggest launch of a non-English language movie ever watched in more than 170 countries internationally including UK, US, Spain, Mexico, Germany and Italy. Both titles have more than 75 per cent of their viewing coming from outside their country of origin (Spain for My Fault, France for Medellin).

Prime Video has also revealed its Top 10* globally most watched non-English language local Original movies and series, based on performance outside of their country of origin:
