Warner Bros Discovery greenlights When Nobody Sees Us
June 27, 2023
Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) has announced the greenlight and start of production of 8 x 50” Max Original When Nobody Sees Us based on the novel of the same name by Sergio Sarria and published by Espasa. Daniel Corpas leads the writing team, with the collaboration of Arturo Ruiz and Isa Sanchez. Enrique Urbizu will direct all eight episodes and Zeta Studios is the production company.
Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Spanish Holy Week celebrations, When Nobody Sees Us is a thriller led by two policewomen trying to solve a series of crimes in a unique place, Morón de la Frontera, in the political and cultural region of Seville’s so called ‘deep Spain; and home to one of the biggest international US military bases.
When Nobody Sees Us is the first production from Spain to be announced for Max, WBD’s enhanced streaming service that combines all of HBO Max with favourites from discovery+ on a single platform. Max is currently available in the US and is rolling out in Latin America later this year, before launching in 22 European countries that currently offer HBO Max, including Spain, from early 2024.
“Throughout my professional career I have made several thrillers with different intensity and themes. When Nobody Sees Us is for me a first and exciting incursion into the television serial of detectives and pure investigation. With two women as our protagonists, Lucia and Magaly, one from the Spanish Civil Guard and the other from the American Military Police, together they share mysteries, dangers and confidences. Both in tone and rhythm, this is a new adventure for me,” said Urbizu.
“When Nobody Sees Us is a bet for the purest thriller, in which the limits of different frontiers in themes and narrative are explored. Of course, there is the border between good and evil, but also the clashes between two ways of life, between countries and cultures, and the weight of tradition. We believe that Enrique Urbizu has all the tools to tell this story that will surprise and engage us all, no matter which side of the border we find ourselves on”, added Executive Producer Miguel Salvat for WBD.
Antonio Asensio, president of Zeta Studios, says: “It is very exciting to see a project to which we have dedicated so much time and affection come to fruition. With the discovery of the trilogy of novels by Sergio Sarria, we saw the possibility of developing a series with a strong international character, with the Holy Week and the American base in Morón as the backdrop for a border thriller with an ambition never seen before in our fiction. Making it a reality in collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery, under the direction of Enrique Urbizu and the writing of Daniel Corpas, presents an unbeatable scenario.”
Antonio Asensio, Paloma Molina and Salvador Yagüe are executive producers for Zeta Studios. Miguel Salvat, Antonio Trashorras and Patricia Nieto are executive producers for Warner Bros. Discovery. Production services for the series are provided by Cuando Nadie Nos Ve La Serie, S.L., a Zeta Studios company, for Warner Bros. Discovery.
