Report: Increasing need for WiFi interference optimisations

July 4, 2023

Personalised communications services pioneer Plume has released its latest Plume IQ report for June 2023, revealing fast interference optimisations rose by 20.9 per cent across the globe comparing the second half of 2021 with the same period in 2022.

These are Wi-Fi optimisations that Plume performs in real-time to resolve high levels of interference that may affect the consumer’s quality of experience. Fast interference optimisations increased from 8.4 per Plume-powered home per month in H2 2021 to 10.2 in H2 2022. This indicates that home networks are becoming increasingly congested. The report also highlights that, as consumers are moving towards data-hungry apps and services (including 4k streaming and virtual reality), the 5 GHz band is becoming more crowded.

Plume analysis reveals a 21.1 per cent increase in fast interference optimisations in the 5 GHz band compared to a 19.9 per cent growth in the 2.4 GHz band. The introduction of the 6 GHz spectrum will support Communications Service Providers (CSPs) by offering more capacity for intelligent Wi-Fi management.

The findings are derived from more than 2.5 billion connected devices, and over 48 million locations, managed in the Plume Cloud.
