Analyst: “Starlink will dominate”
August 3, 2023
Analyst Tim Farrar of TMF Associates says that Elon Musk’s Starlink system will dominate satellite broadband “for at least the next five years”.
Farrar adds that Musk is also dominating the launch business with his Falcon 9 rockets.
His comments follow on from SpaceX’s comments to investors that it expects its overall (rocket launches plus Starlink broadband) business to see revenue double this year, from around $4 billion last year to around $8 billion this year.
The expectations, forecast by Paris-based Euroconsult, is that around 40 per cent of the $8 billion suggestion will come from Starlink and drawn from consumers and business users as well as a growing interest from airlines and maritime/cruise users.
In terms of active Starlink subscribers, its base is expected to double from an estimated 1.1 million in January 2023 to about 2.2 million by the end of 2023.
