Survey: Hardcore games play for 80hrs per month
September 28, 2023

Researchers surveyed 2,000 Brits who consider themselves ‘hardcore gamers’ – and discovered the average console enthusiast spends 20 hours each week / 80 hours a month sitting in front of a screen.
And because of their love of shoot ‘em ups and RPGs, dedicated gamers can often take as few as 8,700 paces a week, when the recommended daily movement is 10,000. A deficit of 61,300 steps a week, according to the according to the poll from beef jerky brand, Jack Link’s.
Unsurprisingly, almost seven in ten of those polled (69 percent) admitted they were concerned about their sedentary lifestyle. When it comes to diet, over a quarter (27 percent), admit to snacking constantly while on their console, with the average gamer scoffing seven processed or high sugar snacks a night to keep their energy up and fingers on the move.
When it comes to players’ go-to snacks, crisps topped the list (65 per cent), followed by chocolate (44 per cent) and biscuits (37 per cent). Only 31 per cent of regular gamers have a gym membership, with 77 per cent saying they need to get more exercise and eat healthier.
Despite this, 79 per cent say gaming makes them happy, while 48 per cent admitting it gives them a sense of contentment and 17 per cent feel part of an online community.
To support gamers looking to increase their movement, Jack Link’s has launched a series of workouts devised by performance coach and eSports specialist, Damien Andrews. The three workouts feature different levels of difficulty, with exercises designed to fit within gaming sessions.
Andrews commented: “Jack Link’s is my trusted gaming companion and this workout is designed to level up the game even more. Whether you’re a rookie or a seasoned pro, these workouts come in three skill levels, each carefully crafted to seamlessly integrate into your gaming sessions and improve your fitness as you play.”
