Italy-based aerospace company Argotec is opening a new facility in Maryland, USA.

Argotec already has a busy R&D unit in Turin and operates climatic rooms and a thermal vacuum chamber in order to recreate the extreme conditions of temperature and to validate its satellite projects. Argotec also has its own Mission Control Centre directly connected with NASA control centres where Argotec engineers can control and support the operations done onboard the International Space Station in real-time.

The company also works with the Italian Space Agency, the European Space Agency and NASA.

Argotec is to invest $25 million into a 20,000 sq ft facility at Largo, Maryland to design, develop, build, test and operate satellites. The facility will be hiring for around 100 jobs.

Argotec’s first project is a universal space transponder, intended to improve radio communications for satellites especially those in deep space.

“Our recent missions with NASA have proved the reliability and performance of our satellites, and we’re ready to take that expertise to the next level with our new US manufacturing facility and in our collaboration with JPL,” said David Avino, Argotec CEO and founder. “These activities reflect our strength and stable growth as a company and demonstrate our commitment to the US market.”
