November 13, 2023
Prime Video and the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) have announced a new, multiyear rights agreement that will make the streamer the new home for the league in the US and Canada.
Beginning in 2024, Prime Video will be the exclusive home for 27 total matches each season, including 25 regular-season games as part of a ‘Game of the Week’ on Friday nights throughout the season. Additionally, Prime Video will stream a season-opening kickoff match, and a quarterfinal playoff contest. Prime Video will handle the production of each game, and announce details, including on-air talent and its 2024 schedule, at a later date.
“We are honoured to collaborate with the NWSL as it continues to grow into one of the most prestigious leagues in the world, with remarkable athletes and world-class competition,” said Marie Donoghue, VP US sports content & partnerships, Amazon. “We are committed to providing premium content for Prime members and championing women’s sports—this landmark deal achieves both, and we can’t wait for 2024.”
“Our new multi-partner media rights agreements fundamentally change the game for our league and the players who take the pitch each week. On behalf of the NWSL, our owners and players, I want to commend Prime Video for investing in our league and affirmatively declaring to the marketplace that this league is exciting, valuable, and important,” added NWSL Commissioner Jessica Berman. “We have taken great care to ensure our games are discoverable by increasing our reach in order to expose new audiences to everything that makes our league special, and we’re thrilled to team with Prime Video. This is the beginning of our future.”
