The BBC has acquired supernatural drama Mayfair Witches, based on the best-selling novels by Anne Rice, for BBC Two and iPlayer.

The eight-part series from AMC Networks stars Alexandra Daddario, Jack Huston, Harry Hamlin and Tongayi Chirisa. Based on  Rice’s iconic trilogy, Lives of the Mayfair Witches, the series explores female empowerment and the mortal implications of decisions. The show follows Rowan (Daddario), an intuitive young neurosurgeon who discovers she possesses supernatural abilities and that she is the unlikely heir to a family of witches. As she grapples with her newfound powers, she must contend with a sinister presence that has haunted her family for generations.

Mayfair Witches follows on from the critically acclaimed Interview with the Vampire, also made by AMC Networks and based on the works of Rice, which recently aired on BBC Two and is available in full on iPlayer.

Sue Deeks, Head of BBC Programme Acquisition, commented: “Mayfair Witches, the second series set in Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe, conjures up a darkly distinctive and richly atmospheric companion piece to the critically-acclaimed Interview with the Vampire.”
