Tabby McTat Song gets Xmas charity release

December 4, 2023

Ahead of the much-anticipated release of Magic Light Pictures production of Tabby McTat on BBC One and BBC iPlayer this Christmas, fans are now able to download the Tabby McTat Song.

The song has been exclusively performed and recorded by voice cast Rob Brydon, who plays busker Fred in the film, and Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù who voices Tabby.

Since the much-loved book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler was first published in 2009, families have been imagining the melody of the Tabby McTat Song, every time it is read and performed out loud. Everyone has their own interpretation. Now the song, composed by Donaldson, is set for official release and fans will also be welcomed to record and share their own renditions on social media tagging the producers @MagicLightPics.

Proceeds from sales are being donated to the Tabby McTat charity partner, Cats Protection, a UK charity dedicated to rescuing and rehoming stray, unwanted or homeless cats and educating people about cats and cat welfare.

Donaldson, commented: “I was so thrilled when I heard that Rob Brydon was going to play the busker. Rob’s been in all of the films in some capacity, sometimes with more lines than others. And it’s lovely that he, on some occasions, has been happy to act quite a small part. This time he’s got a major role and he’s got a brilliant voice and I love the way he sings this song”

In addition, the full score composed by René Aubry, renowned French multi-instrumentalist will be available to download on December 8th.

The Tabby McTat animated adventure is set on the streets of London about the warm and wonderful friendship between a musical cat and a talented busker called Fred. Adapted from the hugely successful picture book written by Donaldson and illustrated by Scheffler, the film also stars Cariad Lloyd as Prunella, Joanna Scanlan as Pat, Jodie Whittaker as the Narrator, and Susan Wokoma as Sock.
