April 16, 2024
Disney has acquired the rights to show the next three seasons of the UEFA Europa League and Europa Conference League tournaments on its Disney+ streaming service in Denmark and Sweden.
Through a deal with football governing body UEFA, Disney+ will stream the 2024-25, 2025-26 and 2026-27 campaigns from the second-tier and third-tier European club football competitions, offering over 340 live games per season.
Currently, both the Europa League and the Europa Conference League are being aired in Denmark by commercial broadcaster TV2, and in Sweden on the Viaplay OTT service.
The deal marks Disney+’s forst foray into European sports rights.
“Our aim is delivering the best offer for fans who are passionate about football while spreading the two tournaments to a larger audience and introducing the rights to a new generation of fans and supporters,” commented Hans van Rijn, SVP and Country Manager at The Walt Disney Company Nordic & Baltic.
