Colm Meaney joins cast for Safe Harbor

April 30, 2024

Submarine, Videoland, Night Train Media/Eccho Rights and Zero Gravity have announced new cast members for the action thriller Safe Harbor (8×52’).

Joining the cast is multi award-winning Colm Meaney (Layer Cake, Con Air, Star Trek), Pauline McLynn (Father Ted, Last Night in Soho, Shameless), Damien Molony (The Split, Crashing, Brassic), Charlotte Timmers (Billie vs Benjamin, Zillion) and Daniel Lapaine (Catastrophe, Black Mirror).

The news comes after the initial cast was announced late last year, which includes Emmy and Tony nominated actor Alfie Allen (Game of Thrones, Rogue Heroes), Charlie Murphy (Happy Valley, Peaky Blinders), Jack Gleeson (Game of Thrones, Sex Education) and Martijn Lakemeier (The East, Marie Antoinette).

Filming commenced in the autumn 2023 and the series will be delivered in Q4 2024.

Inspired by true events, Safe Harbor follows gifted hacker Tobias (Allen) and his ambitious best friend Marco (Lakemeier), intent on cracking into the tech billionaires club. Marco and Tobias are plucked from quiet obscurity and plunged headfirst into the chaos of organised crime when they cross paths with the Irish mob. Leading the family’s operations in Holland are Sloane (Murphy) and Farrell (Gleeson) who enlist Tobias’ and Marco’s services to hack into the computer system of Rotterdam harbor — Europe’s largest shipping port — to secure the undetected deliveries of drug shipments. Safe Harbor balances edge of the seat action with unique character-based stories.

Acclaimed Dutch director Arne Toonen is directing the series together with Mark Williams and Belgian directing team Norman Bates. Writing is already underway for the show’s second season.

Submarine, which is part of Mediawan, the independent European studio for audiovisual content, is leading the production. Femke Wolting is Executive Producing for Submarine alongside Mark Williams for Zero Gravity. The series is financially supported by Creative Europe, ScreenFlanders and the Netherlands Film Fund. It was commissioned by and developed with anchor broadcaster Videoland in The Netherlands. Night Train Media is financing and controlling worldwide distribution rights, and sales for the series are undertaken by Eccho Rights, part of the Night Train Media Group.

Wolting said: “It’s a pleasure to be bringing on board even more fantastic talent from around the world, marking Safe Harbor as a truly global project. This unique thriller will leave audiences on the edge of their seat, and with such a brilliant cast and talented creative team including writer/director Mark Williams and director Arne Toonen, it’s going to be an unforgettable experience.”

Williams added: “It’s a wonderful treat to watch these great European actors bring life to our band of colorful characters.”
