June 18, 2024

BBC Studios announced at Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity that it will move its TalentWorks division into the Global Digital Brands team.

A key part of the move entails extending the existing Creator in Residence programme to the Global Digital Brands division. The TalentWorks team, headed up by Head of Development Helen O’Donnell, will help identify, develop and nurture emerging new talent within BBC Studios own production teams or invested indies for the division, while growing a slate of new IP.

The TalentWorks Creators in Residence programme launched in 2020 as part of the drive to invest in new creative talent, pairing emerging screenwriters and content makers with some of the most experienced producers in the industry.  Many emerging creators who have successfully produced their very own commissions and podcasts across platforms including BBC One, BBC Science and BBC Three.

The new Creator in Residence Digital Division placements offer three, six-month paid residency roles as part of a 100K 2-year investment supporting new emerging digital content creators across keys brands including Top Gear, Doctor Who and Comedy Entertainment. The residency offers tangible opportunities to emerging creators within business areas, enabling creators to gain on-the-job training whilst working on their own authored work.

Jasmine Dawson, SVP of Digital Global Engagement at BBC Studios, said: “Bringing TalentWorks into our portfolio is a great opportunity for emerging talent to work on some of our biggest global brands and connect with our digital audiences”.

Helen O’Donnell Head of TalentWorks Development at BBC Studios, added: “Extending the very successful Creators in Residence programme into the Global Digital Brands team is an exciting time for us to now start seeking out new creators and pair them with some of the best producers in the industry and develop their very own brilliant commissions”.
