MCM Scholarship winners announced

October 1, 2024

In early September, ReedPop shared the news of its inaugural MCM Scholarship opportunity. The company has now revealed the three lucky winners.

Each winner will receive entry to MCM x EGX this October, a hotel stay and a cash prize of £500, as well as having a bespoke itinerary for the show designed to maximise the value and connections they get out of the experience for their creative careers.

The winners are:

Muyembe Mwanza – a writer passionate about storytelling and amplifying underrepresented voices, particularly amongst black authors in the UK. She’s currently working on two novels and has written articles for several websites. Her goal is to publish her novels though she doesn’t specify traditional or self publishing, and she also just wants to be part of the writing community.

Faith Molloy – an aspiring video game artist currently studying Video Game Art and Design at De Montfort University. She has experience as a concept artist with Facepie Productions, working on fan and parody games, and has also apprenticed at Rebellion Studios, gaining hands-on experience in animation rigging for video games. Her goal is to work as a professional concept artist.

Leigh Licorish – they aspire to work in comics as a penciller, they have experience in writing/pencilling/inking/colouring and have contributed to fan comics and charity projects, including TFNation’s yearly comic and a fan continuation of Archie’s Sonic the Hedgehog comics. Their goals include working as a comic penciller, particularly for franchises like Star Trek, Sonic and Power Rangers, but they are also interested in being a concept artist for AAA game titles.

MCM Comic Con is Europe’s largest geek and pop-culture event, while EGX is the UK’s leading video game convention. MCM Comic Con London and EGX will take place at ExCeL London from October 25th to 27th, marking the first time both events are under one roof.
