William Gao, Freya Allan star in Audible’s Disorder

November 8, 2024

Audible, a provider of spoken word entertainment, has announced a new English language multi-cast production for Disorder (‘Sindrome’), from best-selling Italian author and social media favourite, Rokia.

Part dark romance, part fairy-tale, the new Audible Original follows the lives of Olivia, Sia, Derek and Edgar – four young people with traumatic pasts, each searching for their own way to heal. Brought together by an unorthodox doctor, the group must face a series of demanding challenges deliberately designed to make them confront their demons. But as they process their pain and re-open familiar, old wounds, can friendship and love prevail and guide them through?

Voiced by a high-profile multi-cast line-up, featuring Diane Guerrero (Orange is the New Black, Encanto), William Gao (Heartstopper, Crescendo), Freya Allan (Witcher, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes) and Connor Swindells (Sex Education, Emma), the audiobook will mark the first time the novel has been translated into English and that Rokia’s work has been made available to English-speaking audiences.

Disorder – originally published as Sindrome – was an instant hit in Italy when it was published in 2023, as exciting young writer Rokia followed up her bestselling debut, The Truth Untold (La Verit  Nascota). Sensitively tackling issues around mental illness, such as self-harm, anorexia and PTSD, the novel has received widespread praise, particularly among Italian Gen-Z audiences and on BookTok, where Rokia has become one of the platform’s most influential writers.

Audible acquired the English language rights for Disorder/Sindrome from Viviana Vuscovich at Mauri Spagnol. The book was translated into English by Beth Hickling-Moore.

Rokia’s Disorder is available now exclusively on Audible.
