AWS, prpl collaboration

Thanks to a unique implementation of Amazon Web Services (AWS) with prpl Foundation’s Life-Cycle Management (prpl LCM) engine, developers can now deploy and manage software on customer premises equipment (CPE) at scale.
The integration combines AWS IoT Greengrass, a managed service that allows developers to build, deploy, and manage software for edge devices, with the prpl LCM engine to deliver open source, edge-managed services to CPE manufacturers.
“With prpl LCM and AWS IoT Greengrass, we are providing a new way for developers to efficiently deploy and manage software for edge devices,” said prpl Foundation President, Dr. Leonard Dauphinee. “AWS has been a key supporter of the prpl community, and AWS services have proven to be a driver for accelerating value-added applications and services.”
Today, developers are using prplOS, an open-source enterprise-grade software framework, to power the next generation of WiFi routers and gateways. With prpl LCM, developers can create containerised environments on CPE to enable security and isolation. Developers can use AWS IoT Greengrass with prpl LCM to frequently deploy and update new software applications within their containers. An open-source edge runtime and cloud service, AWS IoT Greengrass simplifies software orchestration across fleets of devices and containers at scale, making the application development process faster. Devices can collect and analyze data closer to where that data is generated, react autonomously to local events, and run predictions based on machine learning models that are trained in the cloud.
The prpl LCM and AWS IoT Greengrass integration was successfully implemented on the prpl Reference Platform from fellow member, MaxLinear, showcasing the ease of deployment and execution of software updates for security monitoring applications.
