Apple TV+ orders Lucky drama starring Taylor-Joy
December 3, 2024

Apple TV+ will expand its original series lineup with Lucky, a new limited drama set to star Golden Globe Award winner, SAG Award winner and Emmy Award nominee Anya Taylor-Joy, who will also serve as executive producer. Lucky is based on the New York Times bestselling novel and Reese’s Book Club pick of the same name by Marissa Stapley.
In Lucky, Taylor-Joy stars as a young woman who left behind the life of crime she was raised in years ago, but must now embrace her darker, criminal side one final time in a desperate attempt to escape her past.
“Reese’s Book Club began with the goal of deepening connections — to the stories, to the storytellers and to the community we are building,” said Reese Witherspoon. “It is incredibly rewarding to be able to amplify these female-centric stories and their authors, see our community connect with them, then see them take on a whole new life on screen. We couldn’t be more excited to partner with Apple TV+ and the incomparable Anya Taylor-Joy, plus our brilliant creator Jonathan Tropper and his wonderful co-showrunner Cassie Pappas, to bring this compelling series — based on Marissa Stapley’s fantastic novel — to audiences around the world.”
“Hello Sunshine continues to do a fantastic job of championing women’s voices and I’m thrilled to be joining the team alongside Jonathan, Cassie and Apple TV+ to bring Lucky to life,” added Taylor-Joy.
Hailing from Apple Studios, Lucky will be co-showrun, written and executive produced by Jonathan Tropper through his Tropper Ink banner and under his overall deal with Apple TV+, alongside Cassie Pappas. The series will be executive produced by Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter for Hello Sunshine, a part of Candle Media. Taylor-Joy will executive produce through her production banner, LadyKiller.
Lucky is the latest collaboration between Apple TV+ and Hello Sunshine, adding to a lineup that includes the Emmy Award-winning series The Morning Show, which just wrapped production on its fourth season; the hit series The Last Thing He Told Me, which recently began production on its second season; and Surface, set to release its second season in 2025. Additionally, Apple recently teamed up with Taylor-Joy for the upcoming genre-bending Apple Original Film, The Gorge.
