EE wins UK’s best network
December 3, 2024
EE has been named the winner of the umlaut connect 2025 Mobile Network Test in the UK, marking the 10th year in a row that it has been awarded this accolade and, in doing so, becoming the first UK operator to ever surpass a score of 900.
The test was conducted by the independent benchmarking organisation umlaut. Its methodology involved both drive and walk tests across an area comprising over 25 per cent of the UK population, with voice and data performance measured across 19 cities and 27 towns, as well as over the UK’s rail and road networks.
In the locations specified in the test, EE ranked top in terms of both performance and reliability in all three benchmarked categories: controlled voice and data testing, and a sophisticated crowdsourcing methodology to evaluate real-world network capabilities, download speeds and latency.
Howard Watson, Chief Security and Networks Officer, BT Group, commented: “We’re delighted that EE has once again been recognised by connect and umlaut as the UK’s best mobile network following its rigorous testing process. To not only retain this award for a 10th consecutive year, but at the same time set a new benchmark for UK networks in achieving a record-breaking score, is testament to our ongoing network leadership.”
Over the past 12 months, EE has launched a 5G Standalone (5G SA) network which is already available to almost one-third of the UK population, was the first network to meet the UK government’s Shared Rural Network coverage targets and has successfully retired its legacy 3G network.
