Report: Virgin Media is best broadband network
December 16, 2024

Virgin Media has been named best network in every category of Opensignal’s latest biannual report – including consistent quality, download speed, upload speed, video experience and reliability experience.
The report examined the real-world fixed broadband experiences of users across the UK, analysing performance data from July 1st to September 28th, 2024, across 12 different regions.
Consistent Quality (Percentage based results)
The research used six key performance indicators including download and upload speeds, latency, jitter, packet loss, and time to first byte, setting thresholds appropriate for individual rather than multiple device usage. Virgin Media was named the most consistent network, achieving a score of 90.4 per cent, outperforming Sky Broadband (72.3 per cent) and EE (83.1 per cent).
Reliability Experience (100-1,000 points)
The category measured the ability of a household to connect to the internet and to successfully complete ‘uninterrupted’ tasks across multiple devices, encompassing work and recreational activities. Virgin Media was named the most reliable network, achieving a score of 763 – higher than Sky Broadband (644) and EE (584).
Gareth Lister, Director of Connectivity at Virgin Media O2, commented: “We’re committed to providing our customers with fast and reliable connectivity, so being recognised by Opensignal as the best performing provider across all five categories is fantastic news. It is testament to our ongoing investment and hard work to give our customers the best broadband experience possible.”
