IBC Exhibitors E – F

Edgeware
Stand 14.F20

Alongside its presentation of how to achieve beyond broadcast viewing experiences at IBC2018, Edgeware will showcase demonstrations of several technology applications. These include its forensic watermarking anti-piracy solution and server-side OTT ad personalization.

On stand 14.F20, Edgeware will be presenting its Ad Enabler solution which allows for the personalization of ads during live OTT, live-to-VoD and time-shift TV services. It supports HLS, for delivery to Apple devices, and MPEG-DASH for Android devices – making Edgeware one of the first to support live server-side, OTT ad insertion to the operating system.

Ad Enabler uses frame-accurate segmentation to pinpoint exact moments within TV programming. Edgeware’s ad stitching solution detects these markers and through an integration with Yospace and a VAST-compatible ad decision server, fetches the personalized ad and stitches it into the content stream. The TV programming and the ad is then streamed from Edgeware’s high-performance TV server to viewers. Deploying this server-side solution creates completely glitch-free ad insertion for a more personalized viewing experience for audiences.

Also on the stand, Edgeware’s award-winning TV Watermarker will show content distributors how they can protect their valuable TV programming. With internet-delivered services continuing to draw viewers away from traditional broadcasts, anti-piracy measures are becoming increasingly important. TV Watermarker uses a bitstream-based solution which can be used on-the-fly by Edgeware’s TV servers as they stream content.

The demonstration will show how the solution encodes a visual code into the program’s image which is unique to each viewer and much harder for pirates to identify or change than other manifest-based solutions. If a stream is illegally redistributed by an unauthorized source, TV Watermarker can identify the pirate within 15 seconds.

Commenting on the technology presentations, Edgeware’s Richard Brandon said: “demonstrations of our anti-piracy measures always gain a lot of attention throughout these industry events. And it’s easy to see why. We’re showing a powerful, real-world solution that lets content distributors identify pirates who are currently illegally redistributing expensive programming. And ad personalization is a great additional opportunity for revenue for many of our customers, and now they can deliver it glitch-free, to any device.”

These technology demos are part of the beyond broadcast experience that Edgeware is presenting at IBC2018. With more people than ever choosing non-broadcast services for reasons of convenience or higher-quality, content owners and distributors need to deploy a distribution workflow that enables them to take full advantage of internet-delivered means to deliver an experience that surpasses traditional broadcast.

Epic Labs
Stand 14.A36

Epic Labs, proud member of the DASH Industry Forum and Digital Production Partnership (DPP), is pleased to announce its presence at IBC 2018 introducing a new QoE enhancer media platform known as LightFlow.

LightFlow is an easy-to-use service that enables an enhanced user experience by leveraging advanced encoding techniques using machine learning techniques. LightFlow also introduces ultrafast (real-time) encoding and cognitive services to optimize video streams bringing the best quality of experience for customers. It works either for VoD (file-based) and live streams on DASH and HLS on any device player.

LightFlow improves media through proprietary Machine Learning algorithms that analyses content providing the best video quality at a lower bitrate generating an optimal ABR ladder and encoding profiles. Some of the benefits are: minimize rebuffering events, improve video start time (VST), exit before video starts (EBVS) and reduce video start failures (VSF) achieving a best-in-class stream that flows perfectly over any internet connection.

A more efficient use of video bandwidth means a lower cost for storage and improving CDN performance, while reducing transcoding costs.

LightFlow can be easily integrated on any OTT or live TV Channel workflow by consuming a light and intuitive API and an architecture that allows multiple deployment models (SaaS, on-prem, cloud, hybrid).

Customers will get an enhanced QoE, better user engagement and user retention by offering a TV-Like experience.

LightFlow can be deployed on any media workflow and any existing infrastructure either on-premises or on any cloud provider. Epic Labs can also provide the encoding, storage and delivery for any workflow. LightFlow enables a 100% out-of-the-box solution to fit on any workflow or requirement.

Alfonso Peletier, Epic Labs CEO and Founder: “We have identified a raising demand of OTT providers and broadcasters to improve viewers’ experience: a great image quality and a lighter stream that loads up fast, with no rebuffering events no matter the network condition or device brand. At Epic Labs, we have put an incredible Team of media software engineers, encoding and machine learning experts to create LightFlow with the mission to boost viewers QoE while keeping media workflows costs at bay. We are proud to be at IBC, the best place to be when launching a new product like LightFlow and stay in close touch with decision makers from all over the world.”.

Friend MTS
Stand 1.A58

Friend MTS, the content and revenue protection specialist, will be showcasing its 4K/UHD ASiD watermarking and global channel monitoring service at IBC. Designed for broadcast and OTT applications, this will be the IBC debut of the 4K/UHD service.

The ASiD service is the most widely deployed subscriber-level watermarking for premium sports and entertainment content. It can stop streaming piracy by cutting it off at the source; this is done by terminating the access of the subscriber that’s redistributing the content.

Suitable for live channels, PPV events and on-demand assets, theASiD watermarking is invisible, ultra-robust and fully scalable. It’s highly effective against illegal streaming devices, Kodi add-ons, mobile apps, websites and social media.

The integrated global monitoring service uses fingerprint-based content recognition to enable highly automated operation, and this can tackle even the largest live sports events which can generate thousands of pirate streams.

By connecting directly with pay TV operators’ subscriber management systems, the ASiD service allows pirate streams to be deactivated within minutes.By preventing this content theft, broadcasters and rights owners can maximise their audiences and revenues.

Neil Sharpe, Product Marketing Director, said:“With the number of 4K/UHD channels continuing to expand significantly during 2018, there’s a clear need to protect these premium services from streaming piracy. The ASiD watermarking is proven to secure 4K/UHD channels, just like it does with HD and SD channels, with illegal redistribution terminated in minutes to protect critical revenues.”
