IBC Exhibitors G – H

GatesAir
Stand 8.D60

GatesAir, a global leader in wireless, over-the-air content delivery solutions for radio and TV broadcasters, will unveil a new Intraplex Audio over IP transport technology demonstration at IBC2018 that directly addresses the convergence of broadcast operations with IT infrastructure. The software-defined innovation will be GatesAir’s first Intraplex system to live on a COTS x86 server, providing broadcasters with a highly scalable, redundant and cloud-based transport platform for multichannel contribution and distribution. GatesAir will demonstrate the solution at Stand 8.D60.

The integration of multichannel Audio over IP transport into a facility’s IT infrastructure offers several tangible benefits for broadcasters and network operators. The platform first streamlines installation and management by removing the need for many separate codecs and auxiliary hardware components, freeing multiple equipment racks in enterprise-level facilities. Furthermore, the highly scalable solution, which is compatible with AES67 and Dante on the studio side, will allow users to manage many Secure Reliable Transport (SRT) streams on a centralized cloud platform – an industry-first in Audio over IP networking for broadcasters. SRT is a low-latency open source media streaming protocol which provides packet encryption and re-transmission capabilities for reliability and security.

To further strengthen stream robustness and reliability, GatesAir is additionally integrating Dynamic Stream Splicing (DSS), an Intraplex technology that diversifies data across redundant networks to SRT. The addition of DSS to SRT will add additional protection against certain types of packet losses and complete network failures.

“As broadcast and IT convergence accelerates, the industry is in need of solutions that cleanly integrate into the IT infrastructure and implement secure, reliable transport across wide-area networks,” said Keyur Parikh, Vice President and General Manager, Intraplex Product Line. “Broadcast networks will now have a simple platform to manage many channels coming in and out of the studio or headend that runs on a single, highly-redundant, multi-core server, versus maintaining multiple racks of hardware codecs. Additionally, our SRT capability increases stream security and reliability through re-transmission of lost packets and payload encryption. The added value of Dynamic Stream Splicing, a proven technology used worldwide in IP Link codecs today, will arguably create the industry’s most robust and reliable Audio over IP transport platform.”

Globecast is launching its new Digital Media Hub suite of services for sports and live events. By aggregating multiple virtualized technologies into a single ecosystem, the Digital Media Hub allows a live feed to be treated in multiple ways to create content suitable for cross-platform use, in both real-time or for use at a later date.
The live feed can be used for linear playout or to stream to live platforms of the rights holder’s choice, including social media or websites. Using the same live feed, content can be manually or automatically clipped, edited, metadata attached and shared, either short or long-form. For example, highlights clips can be shared quickly on social media to maximize viewer engagement or packages created for OTT platforms.
All the clipped content – short and long-form – is then made available via our new Marketplace Platform in multiple formats/different sizes – including at broadcast quality – and branded using customers’ brand guidelines. This platform facilitates content exchange between any relevant parties, including selling that content, in hassle-free transactions.  All these services can be easily monitored throughout the process using our digital supervision tool.
Digital Media Hub has been developed in conjunction with a number of rights holders with these services already having been used by them.
