EMG Germany chooses Sony’s XVS 6000 live mixer

July 13, 2023

EMG Germany is relying on Sony technology to renew its live production systems: The broadcast specialist for studio, field and post production  based in Hürth, North Rhine-Westphalia, near Cologne, has commissioned two Sony XVS-6000 multi-format video mixers.

The two video mixers replace the old control room system, two Sony MVS-8000Gs. EMG Germany primarily produces entertainment and infotainment formats, but in conjunction with its Outside Broadcasting (OB) truck, the company also delivers productions for major sporting events such as European or World Championships. Six of its total seven broadcast studios can be operated using the two new mixers. Thanks to networked technology, the mixers can be flexibly assigned to individual studios depending on each production’s requirements.

Consistent system change

“We have been using Sony vision mixers for a long time,” says Christian Boden, New Technology Manager at EMG Germany, and responsible for the replacement. “We’ve had very good experiences in all areas of system changeover, whether it’s technical advice, evaluating system size, or helping us develop the best concept for us.”

René Steinbusch, CEO of EMG Germany, adds, “A big plus when switching from the MVS to the XVS live video mixer series is familiarity and logical operating philosophy. In our hectic daily production routine, this is enormously important. Accordingly, this system change was easy for us. In addition, there is very good support from the Sony people, efficient communication channels and an excellent training offer.”

“It is precisely this experience and the trust of our customers that flows into the development work and makes our products constantly better in terms of a consistent operating and ergonomic concept,” says Christian Hesse, Key Account Manager Germany at Sony Europe. “And then there’s our strict focus on future-proofing: live video mixers like the XVS-6000 are also designed to meet tomorrow’s requirements, for example with regard to UHD and remote production – or even IP expansions.”

XVS-6000 switcher with ICP-X7000 control panels

The XVS-6000 is a multi-format video mixer and offers the best in terms of flexibility and reliability and its extensive feature set that has been expanded over the years. In addition, the system supports diverse hardware or software panels, as well as proven third-party control interfaces for studio automation and live control. The system is also future-proof and can be upgraded to UHD or IP at any time if required.

Two large network-capable 4ME panels are used in the new control rooms. Thanks to the modular ICP-X concept, the system is extremely variable and prepared for a wide range of production requirements – including remote access. In addition to  familiar modules, the ICP-X7000 panels offer all the established Sony features. The new XPT pads ensure easy and safe operation of the panels and allow direct access to all important system resources.
