Portugal Telecom nears 1m pay-TV subs

Portugal Telecom has reported 55,000 new subscribers to its pay-TV service ‘Meo’ in the third quarter of 2011 to reach 974,000 customers – adding that it expects to surpass the 1 million milestone before the end of the year.

September was reported to be its best-ever month for Meo net additions, The company now holds a 33.6 per cent share of the Portuguese pay-TV market after September proved to be Meo’s most successfully ever month for net additions. Portugal Telecom also added 30,000 customers for its broadband services in the third quarter of this year, with its residential broadband customer base rising 13.6 per cent on an annual basis to reach 880,000.

Total revenues across all operations and markets for the third quarter of this year rose by a spectacular 83.5 per cent year-on-year to reach €1.747 billion, while EBITDA rose 71.3 per cent to reach €654.2 million.
