Stockholm to host the world’s largest FTTH showcase in 2014

May 16, 2013

The FTTH Council Europe is pleased to announce that the FTTH Conference 2014, to be held in the Stockholmsmässan exhibition centre in Stockholm from 18th to 20th February 2014, will feature a special Nordic showcase of FTTH-enabled innovations.

Combining conference sessions with an exhibition and unparalleled networking opportunities, the FTTH Conference is the largest FTTH-focused event in the world, gathering more than 3,000 participants during its last edition held in London in 2013. The special theme of the 2014 Stockholm event is ‘FTTH – Showcasing a Brighter Future’, bringing together Nordic innovations based on fibre-access solutions.

“The Nordic countries are the pioneers and historic leaders in Fibre adoption, with penetration rates of FTTH subscribers reaching nearly 23 per cent of the Swedish households, 16 per cent in Norway, 11 per cent in Denmark and 9 per cent in Finland”, stated Karin Ahl, President of the FTTH Council Europe. “There are many lessons to be learned from the Nordic countries, where FTTH-enabled services are widely available today, and where innovative financial models and public-private cooperation are in place. We are proud to bring the FTTH Conference to Stockholm to showcase this innovative trend to our European and Global delegates.”

Anna-Karin Hatt, Swedish Minister for Information Technology and Energy, who is invited to open the FTTH Conference declared: “The target of the Swedish government’s strategy for Broadband deployment is that 90% of all Swedish households and companies should have access to 100 Megabits per second (Mbit/s) by the year 2020. We are halfway there, but there are still challenges ahead. I am pleased to see that Stockholm will host the next FTTH Council Europe conference. I hope that you will learn from us, and that you will provide us with new insights and new ideas. Welcome to Sweden and I hope your conference will be very successful.” Margareta Björk, Lord Mayor of the City of Stockholm and host of the event, will also address the audience during the opening ceremony.

Registration for the event will open in June 2013. Information about the event, including a clip of the last edition in London, is available on www.ftthconference.eu.
