US pay-TV giant DirecTV says it will start offering home security to subscribers next year. DirecTV on June 5th acquired LifeShield, which specialises in monitoring doors, windows and offers various video camera options.
DirecTV will then be matching the likes of Comcast and Time Warner Cable who already supply home security to subscribers.
DirecTV says it will retain the name and separate branding, and existing staff, at LifeShield. CEO Michael Hagen said: “It’s an exciting chapter. The DirectTV people are smart. We’ve gotten to know then over the last couple of years through technology presentations and it heated up over the last couple of months. When you’re partnered with the largest satellite-TV company in the country and they want to build out your service, that’s a good thing.”
