iWedia, a provider of software solutions for TV devices, has announced that the new Swisscom TV 2.0 Android IPTV STB is operated by iWedia Teatro-3.5 software solution.
Teatro-3.5 software solution for Android STB seamlessly extend Android to integrate all the multicast and connectivity components necessary to give support to managed IPTV and OTT services with advanced Java User Interfaces.
In the Swisscom TV 2.0 use case, to secure the delivery of premium content live and on demand, Teatro-3.5 is integrated with Verimatrix VCAS for IPTV Conditional Access System as well as with Verimatrix VCAS for Internet TV and Microsoft PlayReady Digital Right Management systems.
The Swisscom TV 2.0 box gives access to 250+ TV channels (of which 80+ are in HD), over 6400 videos on demand (in German, French, and Italian languages), more than 5000 live sport events per year, and provides 7-day catch-up services on almost all channels.
A local time shift buffer allows pausing and resuming live TV. Thanks to the network PVR, the subscriber may record as many events (scheduled or passed) as (s)he wants at the same time. The recordings are stored in the cloud.
All these TV features are complemented by the access to an application store proposing more than 50 popular Android apps.
“We are delighted that Swisscom has chosen our software solution to operate its TV 2.0 Android box and manage its first screen offering. With this deployment, Swisscom becomes one of the first digital TV operators worldwide to leverage Android openness and flexibility,” said Nikola Teslic, CTO of iWedia.
“Our vision of Android becoming a preeminent environment for digital TV devices (the same way it happened for mobile devices) is actually turning to reality. There is an irresistible traction on the market where more and more digital TV device manufacturers as well as digital TV service providers are to adopt Android as their environment of choice mainly to benefit from its existing
ecosystem. Based on our track-record of success in extending Android for digital TV, we are now in an ideal position to propose mature and field proven software products to this growing market,” he added.
