Spain: Record profit for Mediaset and Atresmedia

Mediaset, owner of Tele 5 and Cuatro among other channels, and Atresmedia, owner of Antena 3 and La Sexta, among others, made a combined €250 million for the year to September 30th, controlling 85.7 per cent of the Spanish TV ad market.

In the first nine months, Mediaset made a profit of €146.1 million, up 10.8 per cent on the same period last year.

Atresmedia made a profit of €103.4 million, up 1.9 per cent. Combined, both have earned around €1.8 billion since 2008.

Until September Mediaset and Atresmedia -with six channels each – have made over €1.2 billion in ad revenues controlling 85.7 per cent of the ad market and 55.5 per cent of the audience ratings. Atresmedia declared an ad income of €664 million, up 0.5 per cent whereas Mediaset’s €660 million was down 0.9 per cent due to the volatility of the market.
