Rome-based facility house DBW Communication used two 4K OB trucks to serve the 87th Rome Piazza di Siena Master d’Inzeo international equestrian event in Rome, at the famous Villa Borghese.

DBW beamed more than 15 hours in UHD to Italian public broadcaster RAI and Eurosport while at the same time supplying the Rolex-sponsored event in 360-degree VR live streaming of some 80 hours which featured every event. The transmission was carried to 52 countries.

It was the first time that the event was captured in UHD. DBW says that it was an extraordinary technological experiment, in the context of the production of video contents intended for live transmission on the Web and via a dedicated App, which guaranteed the viewer 4K images with a 360-degree field of view.

The VR service included three different delivery methods: YouTube streaming; transmission on platforms for smartphone and immersive headsets; an Oculus Rift facility in the event’s press area.

The event was organised by FISE (the Italian Federation of Equestrian Sports) in collaboration with CONI (the Italian National Olympic Committee) and realised by DBW Communication in partnership with Round4U and Oberon Media and with the support of the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and European Space Agency (ESA).
