UKTV orders Tony Robinson’s Marvellous Machines

October 4, 2023

In a brand new six-part UKTV Original series, Like A Shot Entertainment, part of the Argonon group, pays homage to modern engineering marvels and mind-blowing mechanical feats in Tony Robinson’s Marvellous Machines, airing later in 2023 on Yesterday and free streaming service UKTV Play.

The science-packed series, presented by Sir Tony Robinson, travels the world in search of the innovative and unusual machines taking on epic but essential tasks.

From the unsung hero machines making airport runways safe for landing, to the vehicles snatching super yachts out of the water, and a tree-chopping-device faster than twenty lumberjacks, each episode covers different themes, from the “Superhuman” to the “Green Machines”, “Artificial Intelligence” to “Unsung Heroes”. And in “Mechanical Menagerie”, Tony meets the machinery miraculously mirroring the animal kingdom.

The series is executive produced by Sir Tony Robinson, Like A Shot Entertainment MD Henry Scott and Head of Development Danny O’Brien and directed by James Wright and Tim Clarkson. The series was ordered by Gerald Casey, Channel Director, Gold and Yesterday and the pre-sale deal was brokered for UKTV by Harriet Armston-Clarke, Senior Global Acquisitions Manager, UKTV.

Robinson commented: “Humanity has been responsible for truly awesome automation and we’ll be showcasing many of the world’s most spectacular machines through the eyes of those who design, build and operate them. This has been a passion project to bring to the screen with the aim to  entertain, inspire and fuel up the imagination of viewers of all ages.”

Like A Shot’s Henry Scott commented: “Tony Robinson’s mission to meet the most jaw-dropping machinery on the planet makes for an entertaining and accessible new series. With access to factories and workshops, and visits to engineering epicentres from NASA to CERN, the series is packed with exciting stunts and titanic challenges, promising a tech-packed treat of majestic and magnificent machinery in motion.”

The series is also set to air on SBS in Australia and WELT in Germany and is being distributed across the world by Abacus Media Rights.

The series is one of several current productions on Like A Shot’s slate, with two currently unannounced projects in production with UK broadcasters and Abandoned Engineering in production for UKTV.
