Nevion announces 100G add-on to its Virtuoso Media Node
March 20, 2024
Nevion, a Sony Group Company and provider of virtualised media production solutions, has announced the Virtuoso UplinX, a 100G uplink add-on to its highly successful Nevion Virtuoso software-defined media node. The latest addition to Virtuoso family, Virtuoso UplinX is designed to aggregate IP streams from up to eight Virtuoso appliances, providing a highly scalable and cost-effective approach to 100G interfacing.
A key component of Sony’s Networked Live offering, Nevion Virtuoso has been widely deployed across the globe to transport, process, and monitor signals in real-time. As the use of IP technology for live production increases, the demand for 100G interfaces is also growing. This capability is particularly important because backend processing, whether its video encoding/decoding or AV processing, is increasingly being centralized into server farms in datacenters. For remote production, 100G is also often a required interface on site to the wide-area network (WAN).
The Virtuoso UplinX add-on provides multiple 100G uplink (and downlink) interfaces to the network. There is a choice of 2, 4 or 8 interfaces to fit the requirements of the specific deployment, with a single Virtuoso UplinX being able to handle up to 192 uncompressed HD and 48 uncompressed UHD video signals in each direction. It also paves the way for a potential move to a 400G interface when that is needed. Red and blue networks can be handled within one Virtuoso UplinX or separately in different units. The add-on can be configured and managed via Virtuoso’s established web-interface, providing a unified view of the appliances being aggregated.
More cost-effective than in-appliance interfaces or a dedicated IP switch, Virtuoso UplinX allows customers to move to 100G and in time even to 400G, without the need to upgrade their Virtuoso appliances or disrupt their configurations.
Steve Hard, VP of Product Management, Virtuoso at Nevion, said: “Virtuoso UplinX is a very powerful add-on to the Virtuoso family, complementing the Virtuoso MI and the Virtuoso RE. It offers a versatile, high-scalable, and, most importantly, cost-effective solution to the needs for 100G interfacing now, and 400G in the future.”
