SyFy acquires Project Blue Book

February 7, 2019

SYFY – the UK destination brand for all things science fiction and fantasy – today announced the acquisition of Project Blue Book. From A+E Networks, this historical drama – based on the true, top-secret investigations conducted by the US Air Force into Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) from 1952 to 1969 – is executive produced by Oscar-winning filmmaker Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump, Back to the Future, Contact), alongside creator, writer and co-executive producer David O’Leary.  The ten one-hour episodes will premiere on SYFY, part of NBC Universal International Networks’ portfolio in the UK, from March 2019.

Project Blue Book stars Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones, The Wire) as Dr. J Allen Hynek, a brilliant yet underappreciated college professor, who is recruited by the US Air Force to spearhead a clandestine operation called “Project Blue Book.”  Along with his partner, the debonair Air Force Captain Michael Quinn (Michael Malarkey, The Vampire Diaries) Hynek is summoned to investigate UFO sightings around the country and uses science to discover what really happened. However, when some encounters cannot be explained and cases remain open, he begins to suspect that he as been duped by the government into a larger conspiracy to cover up the truth.

Set again the backdrop of the Cold War and rising Atomic Era, each episode draws from the actual “Project Blue Book” case files, blending UFO theories with authentic historical events from one of the most mysterious eras in the history of the United States.

Project Blue Book also stars Neal McDonough (Minority Report), Michael Harney (Orange is the New Black), Laura Mennell (Watchmen) and Ksenia Solo (Black Swan).

“Project Blue Book delves into themes such as trust, instinct, and top secret UFO investigations, which guarantee to appeal to fans of science fiction and fantasy,” commented Lee Raftery, Managing Director UK & Emerging Markets and Chief Marketing & Content Officer, NBC Universal International. “This acquisition is uniquely suited for SYFY UK and, with top talent both in front and behind the camera, we know viewers will be instantly hooked by these compelling, mysterious case files.”
