BSkyB objections evaporating

March 21, 2011

By Chris Forrester

A slew of reports over the weekend suggest that any formal objections to the News Corp bid to buy the 61 per cent of BSkyB that it does not already own see little prospects of success. Any objections to the bid need to be submitted by midday March 21st.

According to the Financial Times, the coalition of newspaper owners has already dropped plans to seek a judicial review of the decision. Lawyers for the coalition have said there is very little chance of success. However, a formal objection has been lodged by legal firm Slaughter & May.

It is also likely that BSkyB shareholders, some of whom have been highly vocal in raising their financial expectations, are likely to receive opening bids from News Corp in a matter of days.
