As the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup enters into the knockout stages, figures show that people are tuning in to watch the growing brand of football across Europe on Eurosport, with 33.8 million different people already watching the tournament on the two channels at the mid-way point.

“We are only just coming out of the group stages and this year’s Women’s World Cup has already been an exciting one, with some promising figures demonstrating the popularity of women’s football on our platform. Eurosport’s early engagement in women’s football throughout Europe has proved to be a smart move. The authenticity of the women’s game provides a fresh viewing experience and it will be exciting to see where the sport sits in ten years as the popularity grows, more people watch and participate and the potential of the marketplace is realised. No doubt that Eurosport will continue to play a key role in its development. ” says Arnaud Simon, SVP, Content and Production for the Eurosport Group.

So far, the most viewed match of the 2015 tournament was between France and England on June 9th, with an average live audience of 1.2 million Europeans tuning in to Eurosport.
